The Fowlers found AYT after Josh had been asking to try something in theater (over and over again!). Last summer, his mom did a search on the computer and found AYT summer camps for him and his sisters that were affordable and not too far away.
Josh had so much fun in Star Warriors Jr. and A Frozen Adventure Jr. camps! Not only in meeting new friends, but also in getting to perform on the stage. He wanted to audition right away for a show, but the timing didn't work out until Peter Pan and Wendy. Now he can't wait for the next show to audition for.
His favorite show is The Lion King. He got a chance to see it at Gammage with his parents and they all thought it was AMAZING! He will see Newsies this summer which his is super excited about. Playing the Genie from Aladdin one day would be a dream come true.
Doing Peter Pan and Wendy has taught Josh to be more organized and to take care of my time better. He is just so excited to be in it!
Josh's mother has seen him light up when he is on stage. She says that he has always had a lot of energy and an inherent need to perform, somewhat all the time, so the theater has been a wonderful outlet for him.
Being involved in theater has been a great lesson on time management, especially as dress rehearsal and tech week come up. Josh is learning how to manage his time and responsibilities to get done what he has to get done so he can have more time to do the things he wants to do.
Josh's mother also believes acting will help him develop friendships and relationships that can last a lifetime, as well as teach him how to take constructive criticism and direction. She has also seen how theatre has shown him the importance of teamwork and relying on others to accomplish a unified goal. Learning that we all rely on each other to accomplish a goal, and whether you are the lead role or the backstage crew, we all have a very important part to play and none is more important than the other, is a lesson she is sure he will carry with him his entire life.
The Fowlers are so grateful to AYT for giving Josh this opportunity to be involved in theater. They look forward to many more to come.
AYT looks forward to it as well!
