Andrew's first show with AYT was this fall's Seussical. He played a jungle creature and got to share the stage with his brother and sister - no more watching from the audience for him! He had such a great experience that he couldn't wait to audition and hopefully begin another show.
He got his chance with AYT's Willy Wonka when he was cast in what has been his favorite role so far, Grandpa Joe. Andrews enjoys playing Grandpa Joe because he is such a funny old man. While Grandpa Joe has been his favorite role, his favorite Broadway show of all time is Peter Pan. What's not to love about all that flying!
Theater has taught Andrew many lessons, from cool dance moves to being courageous, especially when he's nervous on stage. All this has led to his new passion for theater. But it's not just the acting he loves. In his own words, "I love theater because I like to meet new people and have fun while working on the show together."
Andrew's parents have also noticed theater's impact on Andrew. He has gained confidence and is able to manage the anxiety that sometimes comes from performing in front of a large audience. Most importantly, he realizes that he can be brave and do difficult things.
Musical theater has fast become one of Andrew's favorite extracurricular activities. He hopes to do many more shows with AYT.
So does AYT, Andrew!
