Sarah's first encounter with acting was an AYT acting workshop in 2013. She simply fell in love with it! Last year, she took Broadway Rep and Acting 3 classes, and continues her pursuit of learning with AYT's Tap 2/3 and Acting 4 this year. The classes have not only solidified her as a triple threat, but have also helped her get out of her comfort zone and give it her all. Acting 3 allowed her to look at shows and characters analytically and delve deeper into character, while Acting 4 has helped her to bring characters to life. She continues to marvel at how interesting and well taught her AYT classes have been.
Sarah's learning doesn't end with her classes. Theatre itself has taught her how to work for a goal, and that hard work isn't just hard, but a wonderful experience, too! Even though the work is challenging, she enjoys it. But she says it's the instructors that she has learned so much from and have helped her truly grow in her technique.
On the social side, Sarah has become more confident through theatre. This confidence has led her to make friends easier, too, and has given her a way to be creative as well. In theatre she gets a chance to be someone else. She loves delving deeper into a character; how they walk, what their dreams are, and who they love. It’s just so amazing to her to be able to bring that character to life and portray them in a story that people will take to heart and remember. Having the ability to make people laugh or cry is just so remarkable. She just feels at home when doing theatre.
Sarah's mom, Theresa, has seen Sarah grow tremendously through her experience at AYT, discovering passions and talents she otherwise would never have, including a positive peer group that has the same interest as her. Theresa has seen the other teens at AYT be very inclusive and supportive of each other. It’s so refreshing for her to see the positive interactions between the actors in the shows. Since Sarah has such a nice group to be a part of, it has helped increase her confidence with her peer groups in general.
Theresa first signed Sarah up for AYT classes because she was impressed with the high quality programs being offered. As a result, she has seen Sarah grow in her confidence and how she approaches responsibilities in general. At such a critical developmental point in her life, Theresa believes that Sarah's growth and positive experience at AYT have given her a solid foundation to be successful throughout her life. She thanks the talented and dedicated staff of AYT for helping Sarah to discover her talents and strengths, and for fostering them so that they can come to fruition.
Sarah would also like to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to making AYT as great as it is. "It’s such a positive and high energy environment, and I am so blessed to be a part of the shows. It’s a place where I can grow in my performing skills while having the best time of my life. So thank you to everyone who made it possible, because it has allowed me and so many other kids to blossom and be creative."
AYT would like to thank Sarah and her family as well for bringing her talents and overall wonderfullness to our theatre!
